Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium chloride (MgCl2) is a highly hygroscopic inorganic salt obtained by crystallization from seawater or underground brines.
It is typically marketed as transparent flakes or crystals in its hexahydrate form (MgCl2·6H2O).
Uses and Benefits
•Melts ice at much lower temperatures (down to -15°C) and adheres better to roads compared to sodium chloride (rock salt).
•Attracts moisture from the air to keep unpaved roads damp, preventing dust emissions.
Applications
✓In liquid spraying or salting operations against icing on highways during winter.
✓In wear-resistant industrial flooring concrete known as Sorel cement.
