Formic Acid

Formic acid (CH2O2 or HCOOH), taking its name from the Latin word 'formica' for ant, is the simplest acid found in nature in the defense mechanisms of some insects.

It is a colorless, fuming liquid with a highly irritating, pungent odor.

It is completely miscible with water, methanol, ethanol, and glycerol.
